Day 96 -. Nha Trang - Beaches, Boat Trips and Mud

Nha Trang.. What a beautiful place. Our first sleeping bus took us to Vietnam's main beach town. Just stepping off the bus and smelling the ocean made us realize how much we had missed it. We did not waste much time and sat down on two sun chairs on Nha Trang's long beach. Then we read and slept the day away (as we were tired after our long bus ride).

After one day of good rest on the beach we headed out on a boat trip that is by some called "the wicked boat trip." The travel agent that sold us the tickets told us that the trip covered "everything," and she was right. The one day outing included a visit to a family friendly aquarium, snorkeling in crystal clear water, sunbathing on the boat's sun deck, dancing to crappy dance music on the sun deck, drinking beer sold for less than a dollar, swimming at a beach on a smaller island, and jumping off of the boat to the a floating bar in the middle of the ocean.

My favorite part of the day was when the tour guide, the chef, the captain, and the busboy got together and played a small show for us. It was quite the experience to hear Wonderwall and Susie Q sung with a thick Vietnamese accent on a boat in a paradise setting.

The next day we had to kill some time before our next night bus that would take us to Hoi An. We jumped on a motorbike and went out to explore what the city had to offer. We made it up a hill to enjoy the view of the city when it struck us how much the area looks like Northern California, it is just a tad warmer (and much more humid). Afterwards to cool off we drove to the city spa for a refreshing late afternoon.

The spa in Nha Trang had a twist to it though. The pools at this spa were not only filled with water, but some were filled with mud. We first got into a huge mud bath where 15 older Vietnamese ladies were already scrubbing each other. The mud is supposed to be good for your skin, but after a few minutes of being covered in brown mud up to my ears, I felt dirtier than when I got in. This changed after we got out of the mud and into a mineral bath. Relaxing in a heartshaped jacuzzi tub was just what we needed before getting onto the night bus that would take us to Hoi An. The upcoming 13 hour long bus trip is apparently called "hell ..." (according to most guide books).

Our first video upload is from the boat trip. This is while the band was playing "La Bamba." We just love the expression of the guys face. He had never experienced as much fun as in this exact moment.

hehe, fantastic! Hope you enjoyed the bus ride. I think the one you'll experience between Hue and Hanoi might be worse...
